Like balance to succeed, but until he's played in India, pakistan and the lesser hemisphere again, his average is bollocks really.

West Indies are shit, India are shit away and Sri Lanka are in transition.

Matt likes to ignore the fact that his favourites only do it against the chumps.

Probably thought Compton was amazing after his first series in NZ where every track was a road.

The English and aussies only generally care if players aren't going to be intimidated in an ashes series and balance was atrocious.

Time to give someone else a go, as balance hasn't even been in consistent form and it's like a Roy Hodgson pick.

Ballance's Test career

The tough start ...
2013/14 Ashes 1 Test average 12.50

The easier recovery
Sri Lanka at home , 2 Tests average 67
India at home , 5 Tests average 71.85
West Indies away, 3 Tests average 66.20

The realisation that not all Test bowlers are shit
NZ at home, 2 Tests average 9.00
Australia at home , 2 Tests average 24.50

Of England players with over 1,000 Test runs, Ballance has the 13th highest average of all time.

Some backwards step!

Be like Australia digging up Don and bringing him back in!

He actually did well when he first came in.
Was caught out because his technique of playing deep in the crease meant his fat little legs were a good target for the likes of Boult and Starc.
Plenty of players have had a go at Tests and then gone out of the team to work on their game and succeeded second time around.

As I understand it the impression is that he hasn't changed his game much.
Pakistan with Amir and Riaz have a pretty useful attack so we will see how that works out.
Must say I expected to see Buttler come back,

Balance is just a backwards step. Once players have proved they don't have the minerals for the international game that should be it.

Every dressing room needs a Buttler

And a Cook

I'd prefer a side that lacks Ballance.

When Compton was obviously going all the talk was about Borthwick who was in great form. Which turned into a run of single figure scores.
Last week with Buttler's great short form batting all the focus seemed to be on him & getting him back into the team.
As I understand it Ballance made a century last week in front of Strauss etc after not doing much else & returns to even his own surprise.

Very average T20 for some reason was buttler and then stuck as an opener he's taken his game to a new level!

Got corporate for the first day and weirdly, 2 tickets got sent to my address for the Friday, in the name of someone who's never lived at my address.

There is no return address on the envelope either (Hand written).

Yes, particularly if the Captain of England is doing it for you.

Interesting point about whether the teams best batsman should be at 3. Often thought in England with more early movement that 4 may be a better choice.
At least Root would have had the opportunity to observe the great job that Kane Williamson is doing at Yorkshire this season.

Always an Australian link, isn't there Sven.

Reckon this'll be a good, competitive series.

Pakistan seem to have an impressive bowling attack and some experienced heads in the batting. Missing Anderson for the first test to exploit early tour lack of swing awareness could allow their younger batsmen to get confidence in English conditions.
